Setyr Rods & the TFHO Show.
Many who visited the Texas Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Show in Arlington were surprised, not to see the Setyr Rod booth this year. This is especially true for those who had emailed me in advance and asked which booth I was working. Sorry guys! One can only imagine my surprise when I arrived at the TFHO Show ready to work and there was no Setyr Rod booth! Well here is the scoop……
Setyr Rods is located in Grants Pass, Oregon and gets some of their components from a company also located in Oregon. Due to the huge snow storm and subsequent floods that recently made national news, the supplier was unable to ship the rod guides. Lacking parts necessary to build the rods needed for display and sale at the TFHO Show, the owner of Setyr Rods took this opportunity to move the factory to a new location.
The call to notify me that Setyr was not able to attend the show was overlooked somewhere between the chaos of the holidays and the logistics of moving a factory. Oh well, life happens.
I would like to extend an apology for everyone who attended the TFHO Show expecting to find the Setyr Rod Booth. On behalf of Setyr Rods, and myself we hope to see you next year!

    Bye Bye 2008, Hello 2009!
Janet wrapped up the 2008 tournament season missing the WBT championship by only 12 points. Her final points for the 2008 tournment season landed Janet in 24th place of all women. Janet would like to thank all of her fishing sponsors and partners for their support, promotions and fundraising assistance. Aaron's Sales and Lease, Minn Kota, Humminbird, Setyr Rods, Yamaha, Boat US and Navionics have made it possible for Janet to continue to raise money and awareness for various military and children's charities.

    Secondary Points
I was recently asked this question in a email, so here is my response. Remember, just because something works for one person, does not mean it is right for everyone!

First off...What is a "secondary point?"
Let's say there is a cove or pocket off a lake. The first two major points going into the cove, one on the left and one on the right are considered "main lake points." The other points, in the cove or pocket, are considered "secondary points," which CAN be broken down into tertiary points, but we won't go there!

Okay, now that we have established what "secondary points" are; how do you identify them on a map and what is the best approach for fishing them?

The "best" secondary points are ones that have a channel nearby or a sudden depth/contour change. Points that have a gradual depth change or a slope tend not to be as productive. On your lake map look for little channels
that "swing in" near the point or for tight contour lines.

For example: If you see contour lines that are evenly or widely spaced then the bottom will be flat or have a gradual slope. Where map contour lines are tightly
grouped then this indicates a "fast" change in depth.

Now...How do you go about fishing them?????
Try to keep your boat in as deep of water and as far from the bank as possible on your first approach. Second, fan cast for cover with a spinnerbait or crankbait. Depending on what the fish are doing and what type of cover you locate, that will determine your next move. If the fish are wanting a slow presentation, if you find some brush piles, if the fish are suspended or on the bottom you might need to adjust your presentation to a T-rig or C-rig or something else. It really depends on the fish, the cover, the hatch and the angler.

Aaron's,Yamaha, Humminbird, Minn Kota, and Ranger Gives to the Troops!
Janet's sponsors went above and beyond in the 2007 tournament seasonto help her raise money for the military. Aaron's donated an undisclosed LARGE amount of money to the Armed Forces Foundation. Out of the donated funds the AFF purchased a deeply, deeply discounted Ranger boat hull.
The 150 hp boat motor was donated by Yamaha Motors. Humminbird donated a 997 Side Imaging Unit for the console and a 787 for the bow with the interlink system. Sweet! Minn Kota donated a 101lb trust Max Pro Trolling Motor.
These are companies that truely "Give Back" to our commumity. Thanks Guys!! You are the BEST!
And remember "if you cannot donate to the troops then support the companies that do!" This way everyone wins.

    Thank You North Texas Marine!
Dear Joe,

I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thank You" to you and all of your employees. Last week after filming a television segment my truck broke down, with boat in tow. I called the Ft. Worth store and Rick went out of his way to come get my boat and pull it to the North Texas Marine Ft. Worth store. This is just one example of the wonderful service and attention I have received from your staff. Anytime I have ever needed a boat, prop or any other boat issues the staff has always gone above and beyond my expections of quality service. I am proud to be associated with North Texas Marine and encourage anyone considering purchasing a boat to visit North Texas Marine if they want an exceptional boat with second to none service!
